A dental crown is a type of restorative dentistry procedure that protects a tooth that has been weakened by decay or another type of damage. Dental crowns are one of the most common types of dental procedures, and can last for a long time and look very natural.
Here at Highpoint Dental Care and Implant Center Care and Implant Center, we offer a variety of different types of dental crowns. If you are in need of a crown, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 303-617-9100 to schedule your appointment today.
The main types of dental crowns are:
Metal crowns are the strongest and most durable type of crown, but they stand out in your mouth due to the color. Often, metal crowns are the best choice for molars far back in your mouth that need a lot of biting power and won’t be seen when you smile.
Metal fused to porcelain has both the strength of metal and the aesthetic benefit of looking natural in your mouth. However, metal fused to porcelain crowns can sometimes create a black line at your gums if they recede to where the metal is visible.
Porcelain crowns are the most natural looking, and are recommended for front teeth that can be seen in your smile. We are able to create beautiful porcelain crowns that mimic the look of real teeth and are customized to match the rest of your smile.
We also offer the option of same-day crowns using the innovative E4D system. This advanced technology allows us to take a digital impression of your teeth, which is then used to create a custom, detailed model. This model is then milled right in our office while you wait.
Traditionally, dental crowns require at least two appointments. During your first appointment, impressions are taken and you might be fitted with a temporary crown to protect your tooth. These impressions are then sent to a lab which makes the crown. It can take up to a week or even two for us to get your crown, after which we’ll call you for your second appointment.
With E4D same-day crowns, we can create and place your permanent crown in the same appointment. Our patients love the convenience of not having to come back for a second appointment to get their crown placed.
You may need a dental crown if you:
If you have a missing tooth, a bridge will likely be a better option for you. Dental bridges typically consist of two dental crowns on either side of your missing tooth, which serve as anchors for a false tooth that fills the space where your real tooth used to be. Dental bridges help to fill in your smile, and they also help to stabilize neighboring teeth so that they don’t loosen and move into the space left behind by your missing tooth.
If you suspect you may need a dental crown, call Highpoint Dental Care and Implant Center Care and Implant Center today at 303-617-9100 to schedule your appointment. We serve patients in Aurora, Centennial, Parker, Green Valley Ranch, and other nearby areas of Colorado.
