Meet Jackie and Jerry, patients at Highpoint Dental in Aurora, Colorado. Neither Jackie nor Jerry had visited the dentist in several years, but a broken front tooth prompted Jackie to call our office and schedule an appointment. Following her experience, Jackie scheduled an appointment for Jerry, who had traditionally been very uncomfortable with dental visits. Our warm and friendly staff, welcoming environment, and incredible dentists helped put him at ease and he, along with Jackie, are now regular patients. At Highpoint Dental, your comfort is central to your experience. We have created a safe and friendly environment where advanced technology and a gentle-yet-uncompromising approach… Read Full Post

January 13 – 17, 2020 marks National Sugar Awareness Week, offing a great opportunity to reassess your relationship with this ubiquitous sweetener. Sugar is one of the most commonly abused substances in the world, and one whose excess consumption can lead to serious – even fatal – health complications. How Much Sugar do We Consume? The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends that adult males consume no more than 37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons of sugar per day. For women, the AHA recommends no more than 20 grams/6 teaspoons. Children under 18 should consume fewer than 20 grams, with young children avoiding all added sugars. There are 120 teaspoons in a pound of sugar. According to… Read Full Post

Between nine and 20% of American adults are afraid to visit the dentist. For many of these people, that fear started in childhood, often with a frightening, violent, or otherwise unpleasant experience with a dentist. Children are resilient, true, but when helping them develop strong oral health habits for life, a patient, encouraging, and gentle approach is best. This is where our doctors and staff shine. At Highpoint Dental, we treat our youngest patients like our own children, providing them with a safe and fun space where they can become comfortable with professional dental care. Playful and patient, our dentists and staff empower children to take care of their teeth and gums through… Read Full Post

Unattractive teeth can impact your ability to secure gainful employment. Several studies have shown that potential employers, often unconsciously, judge potential candidates on the appearance of their smile. The same thing happens in social situations. Studies conducted in the United States and the UK have found that teeth, before anything else, are the first things we notice when meeting strangers. If your smile is dingy, broken, severely discolored, or otherwise unattractive, it can send the absolutely wrong message to those you are socializing with – in many cases that message being that you are unhealthy, unclean, and unattractive. As we discussed previously on our blog, these… Read Full Post

Oral health and beauty issues can have a profound impact on your career. Your smile is one of your most noticeable attributes and a smile that is broken, crooked, severely stained, or otherwise off-putting can have a demonstrably negative impact on your ability to secure employment or climb the ladder once employed. A recent study from the American Dental Association found that 30% of people aged 18 to 34 reported their dental problems had interfered with successful interviews. A similar report from NBC found this problem is common among older adults as well, making poor oral health and beauty an issue that can impact job seekers of all ages. The ADA study identified several issues that… Read Full Post

At Highpoint Dental, we encourage parents to start bringing their little ones to the office for cleanings, examinations, and pediatric dentistry services around the age of three. By this age, a majority of your child’s baby teeth will have erupted and, hopefully, a daily oral hygiene habit has been developed. Visiting our office around this time allows Dr. Baltz and Dr. Rowe to show your child that there is nothing frightening about the dentist – a key part in preventing the development of dental phobia – while allowing us to evaluate your child’s oral health, address any concerns, and make suggestions and offer solutions for optimizing at-home routines. Our kid-friendly dentistry… Read Full Post

Root canals are not painful. With modern advancements in both local anesthetic and sedation options like nitrous oxide, a root canal should be no more uncomfortable than a standard filling. At Highpoint Dental Care, we offer nitrous oxide to patients who feel nervous about root canal therapy. If you believe this service would be useful, we would be happy to discuss details during your time in our care. We are endlessly committed to patient comfort and satisfaction. We will take every care to make your experience in our office pleasant, relaxing, and rewarding. Why is a Root Canal Done? Pulp lies within a chamber underneath the enamel and dentin of your teeth. Comprised of… Read Full Post

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is an odorless gas that, when inhaled, displaces oxygen in the lungs, resulting in a euphoric, pleasantly heavy, and calming physical and mental reaction. First used as a form of anesthesia in 1844, nitrous oxide is considered an “essential medicine” by the World Health Organization and is used daily in dental offices across the country. As a tool to manage anxiety and discomfort in dentistry, nitrous oxide has few equals. Incredibly fast to work, nitrous oxide will continue to provide a safe level of sedation as long as it is being administered. Once the mask is removed, the effects of laughing gas wear off quickly, allowing patients to function… Read Full Post
